EnvironmentCare for the Global Environment

Basic Approach

The Sanrio Group has established care for the global environment as one of the Sanrio Materiality issues in order to contribute to a society where people live together in peace and harmony based on our corporate philosophy “Minna Nakayoku” (Getting Along Together). We also believe it is our responsibility in operating our business to identify activities that have a significant impact on climate change across the full range of our business activities in order to sustainably provide Sanrio products and services, and we care for the environment in our business activities by reducing GHG emissions and waste, efficiently using resources, complying with environmental laws and regulations, and other measures.

The Sanrio Supplier/Licensee Code of Conduct recommends waste reduction, recycling, and other initiatives to care for the environment and stipulates that it is necessary to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations and dispose of chemical substances in a controlled, safe manner. We also communicate with each supplier and licensee and request compliance with the stated provisions.

Structure and Governance

The Sustainability Committee was established to strengthen the Group's sustainability management. The committee is chaired by the President and CEO and vice-chaired by the Director of the Corporate Strategy Division. The committee also regularly discusses specific Group measures, policies, and initiatives relating to climate change and other environmental issues in committee meetings (four times a year).

Important matters are deliberated and discussed by the Management Council and reported to the Board of Directors (four times a year). The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the setting of targets and the progress of measures.

Risk Management

To monitor suppliers, Sanrio specifies high-risk suppliers and conducts on-site inspections of suppliers and licensees as well as overseas manufacturing plants contracted by licensees to verify the status of environmental care initiatives.
