Supported Creation of a Child-Friendly Space in the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center’s Pediatric Ward
We transformed the pediatric ward at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, using Sanrio characters to create a warm and welcoming environment. A ceremony celebrating the completion of the project was held on July 9, 2026.
Based on the theme of "A Walk & Adventure," the project features original artwork created by Sanrio designers to decorate shared spaces throughout the ward, including the playroom, treatment room, consultation room, and other common areas. The goal was to create an uplifting environment where hospitalized children can spend their time feeling positive and comforted by their favorite characters.
This initiative was carried out as part of the Sanrio Nakayoku Project, supporting "Improve Well-Being," one of the key material issues identified in Sanrio Materiality. Building on the Sanrio Character Aid initiative, through which Hello Kitty has visited hospitals and care facilities, the project extends these activities by creating spaces where Sanrio characters can exist in children's everyday lives. Through these character-themed spaces, the project aims to bring smiles to hospitalized children and their families.
