What is Sanrio Materiality?

To achieve our corporate philosophy of Minna Nakayoku, which means Getting Along Together, and continue sustainably enhancing our corporate value over the long term, we analyzed the business environment with a view to 2035 and identified "Sanrio Materiality," 10 key global issues that we will work to resolve from the two perspectives of value creation and ESG.

To continue to develop businesses that are close to people and support all people and society, based on the spirit of caring and helping each other which Sanrio has valued since its founding.

Encourage children and young people to accept themselves as they are (self-acceptance)

Roll-out and expansion of HANAMARUOBAKE who cheers on your efforts to encourage “self-acceptance”

HANAMARUOBAKE debuted as a comforting presence that watches over your daily efforts and quietly praises and appreciates you, in a social environment where the younger generation is less self-accepting. Based on the concept of a mysterious ghost who gives you a Hanamaru badge for your efforts, HANAMARUOBAKE helps people to develop self-acceptance.

Cheer on children in many different circumstances

Development of the Sanrio Nakayoku Project, Sanrio’s social contribution activity that creates smiles around the world

We provide Sanrio Character Aid, an initiative where Hello Kitty visits children in hospitals, facilities, and disaster relief areas around the world to bring smiles to everyone. We also engage globally in activities that deliver smiles to people in difficult circumstances such as providing educational activities and donations in cooperation with United Nations (UN) Headquarters, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and other organizations.

Since 2019, Hello Kitty has been promoting the SDGs through the collaboration with the United Nations, #HelloGlobalGoals.
On the ”Sanrio Characters YouTube channel,” Kitty meets people who are tackling various global issues, learns about their initiatives to achieve the SDGs, and introduces their stories with everyone around the world.
